Hors d'Oeuvres for Dinner

The cocktail hour is going large these days, with many brides choosing to have their whole wedding meal served that way. The hors d'oeuvres dinner is a big new trend for 2013 weddings, and can be great fun.

The idea is pretty simple -- instead of having a cocktail hour of finger foods followed by a seated meal, whether table service or buffet, you have everything served in bite-size portions.

Having a bite-size meal might not sound like it'd be filling, but by having food served for the entire time of the reception, your guests are able to graze whenever they feel hungry. It can give a big variety of tastes, and makes it easy to deal with any fussy eaters in attendance.

You also don't need to worry about everyone getting seated at the same time, or people being too stuffed to get on the dance floor. Even after cutting the cake, you can have small pieces of it served to your guests as they stay on the dance floor.

Foodie Wedding Trends for 2013

Caterers, like other professionals involved in the wedding industry, are also prone to ‘trends’ and are obliged to tailor their offerings to the fashionable bride and groom accordingly.

For instance, one of the wedding ‘foodie’ trends for 2013 happens to be mint – which is handy considering the Mojito is one of the hottest (not literally) cocktails around at the moment. A mint garnish goes perfectly with most flavours of mojito – and other cocktails or drinks for that matter.

Mint is a pretty versatile herb and can also be incorporated into deserts easily enough, as well as chocolate. It’s a fine accompaniment to lamb, and is also an excellent flavouring for peas. In fact, just try not to get it in to any course you plan to serve up.

Top Wedding Food Trends

A San Diego wedding most often boasts a wedding cake.  But what about other trendy food ideas?  After all, this is a once in a lifetime day and you want to make a great first impression, right?

Cocktail weddings are on the rise, late-night snacks and really local menu ideas are here to stay.  So how will you make a splash at your wedding?

Here are 3 top wedding food trends to consider:

MAD MEN INSPIRED COCKTAILS

Re-think a sit-down reception dinner and go for more of a cocktail party, inspired by the cocktail hour era of the 1950s and 60s. Serve old-school cocktails (like gin and tonics and whiskey sours), hire a live big band (or ask your DJ to stick to the classics), and order up a menu of heavy hors d'oeuvres and food stations.

FAMILY STYLE TABLE SERVICE

Give your sit-down dinner reception more of a dinner party vibe by having dinner passed family-style. So instead of plated meals, each dish is passed around the table for guests to help themselves.

LATE NIGHT BITE

Just as the evening is nearing the end, surprise guests with a late-night snack. Treat everyone to milk and cookies, hire a taco cart, or serve cheese and fruit as a special treat before sending guests on their way.
